Week 6's assignment is to talk about showing what you know in terms of a portfolio. One of the things that I find hardest to do is tooting my own horn and so I've struggled with the portfolio portion of this class. While the mechanics are not insurmountable, finding a format that can showcase your creative process and final results can be daunting.
But this also highlights one of the things I love most about the design industry. Collaboration is more common than I found it to be in the more traditional careers I previously held. More often than not,
I find myself and several colleagues in the resource room pouring over materials all the while asking for input on choices and making suggestions. We support, encourage and grow in ways that we cannot if we isolate ourselves.
Shifting through rolls of architectural drawings and jpeg files of interior design projects while preparing my first portfolio has given me the opportunity to reflect on what I've learned throughout my coursework. From the rudimentary hand drawings of my first classes to the Podium designs from my latest Residential Design Studio course I've experienced significant growth and will find a format that can reflect this for my portfolio. But I expect that in the same way my work has developed and evolved, my portfolio will evolve as well - adapting and changing to reflect new skills, new ideas and demonstrate my development as a design professional.
